The Hotel
We stayed at the Hotel San Antonio in Podstrana, just outside of Split. We had a breakfast buffet, free wi-fi and a private beach, as well as an indoor pool which was unfortunately too damn cold to swim in. The staff were so friendly and more than willing to help us out any way they could.
The Beach
The private beach of the Hotel San Antonia was an absolute dream; one of those places it's hard to imagine existing in real life. A truly picture perfect landscape, straight from the pages of a travel brochure. I was completely in awe of it's beauty.
All this may seem over-the-top, but considering this was only my third plane trip (the first two were Benidorm and Dublin), I've never seen anything like this with my own eyes before. My friend who has traveled all over the world even described Croatia as "one of the most beautiful countries I've ever seen".
The City
Split is a historical city, built in the 4th century by the Roman Emperor, Diocletian. With the Adriatic sea on one side and mountains on the other, Split is naturally defended on almost every side. We visited Diocletians' Palace, as well as the bell tower of the Cathedral of Saint Domnius, constructed on the same site in 1100AD.
Today, the Palace, and many other locations across the city, is used as a set for Game of Thrones. In fact, one of the underground tunnels of the Palace doubles as Daenerys' throne room (admittedly with a lot of editing, apparently. I'm yet to get into GoT). The city also has some fantastic nightlife and plenty of shops to explore.
Check out my next post when I'll share more photos from our visit to Split.
