The Dublin Weekender - Day Two

On Friday morning, we had breakfast in the local Spar. Yeah, the little corner shops like we have here. Except it had seating. So you can buy your groceries, and then sit down and eat them. Genius.

We then went for a stroll around the shopping district, and found out just how stylish Dublin is!

And I found the local Oasis. It was very strange to see all the prices in Euros!

We then went for a drink and a quick bite at the Porterhouse, which is both a bar and a brewery. They create a range of different ales, stouts and lagers, as well as seasonal brews. Unfortunately, we decided to save a few cents and went for a coke instead. However, we did sample the food, which was absolutely amazing.

Next stop was Dublin Zoo, which resides within the Phoenix Park - the largest enclosed recreational area in any European capital city. The park is also home to the Wellington Monument, which is the largest obelisk in Europe at 62 metres high, and commemorates the Duke of Wellington's victory over Napoleon at the Battle of Waterloo.

The zoo was really amazing, and housed some spectacular creatures. The weather was lovely, and we got to see some very playful characters!

The tour bus dropped us back on O'Connell Street, where we stopped for dinner at Flanagan's. This place looked more like an American diner than an Irish restaurant, but the food was great and really good value.

We then saw the Spire of Dublin on O'Connell Street. Well, it's pretty difficult to miss the 400ft high monument, but standing beneath it and looking up is really breathtaking.

Then it was back to Temple Bar to spend the evening at the Buskers, where live musicians play all night long. The place had an amazing atmosphere, and featured some incredibly talented people, including this band - Sal Vitro.
