The Dublin Weekender - Day One

"Oh my god, we're in Dublin!" was the general consensus on Thursday when we touched down on Irish soil. After I had completed my first year at uni, and Sean had finished his course with a first class, it was definitely the perfect time to get away together. And so, after a ridiculously expensive taxi ride (which later turned out to be worth every cent) we arrived at our hotel, the Camden Deluxe on Lower Camden Street.

After dropping off our bags at the hotel, we took a walk around the local area, and found a gorgeous little restaurant on Parliament Street, the Larder. I had an Irish breakfast, and Sean, who had polished off a triple bacon cheeseburger from Burger King at Birmingham Airport, just had a croissant.

Our next move was to wander around the corner to catch the Dublin Tour Bus, on the recommendation of our taxi driver. He had told us that it was wise to take the bus tour early on in the trip, as it really helps to get your bearing on the city and see the sights at the same time.

Neither Sean or I had any intention of actually going to the Guinness Storehouse, but we did drive past it on the tour.

We finished up the tour on O'Connell Street, only a few minutes walk from the River Liffey. The view was gorgeous, and actually reminded me of the Seine running through Paris.

Another short walk brought us to the infamous Temple Bar, with it's many pubs and restaurants. The area has retained much of its original architecture, and the streets are still cobbled. This is where the heels caused an issue, but even so, I instantly fell in love with the place.

For dinner we decided to take a stroll through the area and find a nice, well-priced restaurant. South Street was amazing. The food was so good, and great value as we got very generous servings!

We then headed back to our hotel, which just so happens to be next door to a nightclub. So we had a few drinks and played some pool before heading back to our room to offset the 4:30am start we'd had that day.

Oh yeah, and there's a giant painting of Phil Lynott on the wall just outside our hotel. Could this place get any better?
