Vintage soirees are very much my thing, so when I heard about Take a Seat in the 1920's, held by Modus Events, I was already planning my outfit. Modus are a group of second year students on my course, currently undergoing their Events Management module, and this was their big night. Six weeks of planning had gone into the event, and everything came together brilliantly. Great venue, great costumes, great hospitality - the night couldn't have gone better!
The event was held at the Custard Factory Theatre, where the group would be showing Chicago, one of my favourite movies ever. The girls greeted us on the door with a free glass of bucks fizz, and we were immediately taken aback by their amazing costumes. They had really made an effort, and their outfits helped to set the tone for the evening.
The dress code was 'Dress to Impress', but most people had opted for jeans and jumpers. Nevertheless, Laura and I did our best to rock twenties style (on a tight budget!).
The Modus girls decked out the venue with showstopping pieces, such as this feathered centrepiece and vintage posters. They even had a variety of accessories and props so guests could take unique photos, as modeled by two lovely boys!
Another exciting feature of the event was the raffle. Modus had set up some pretty impressive prizes, all donated to the girls by some very generous people. Prizes included £270 worth of Whistles clothing, a signed photo of Derren Brown, Urban Decay make-up sets, Hedkandi merchandise, a Starbucks gift set, and a Cadbury hamper, among many other things. I bought a couple of strips, and kept my fingers crossed for those gorgeous goodies from Whistles!
We watched the first half of the movie, and then had a short interval, during which a guy called Alun hypnotised one of our lecturers. It was absolutely incredible. He made her forget her own name! Amazing to watch, and very impressive.
Here's the girls announcing the winners of the raffle. No such luck for little old me :(
And here's my outfit in a little more detail, photographed by the lovely Laura Gulshani.
Dress - Warehouse Fur stole - H&M Bag - Oasis
Hairband - Oasis (I think)
Watch - Sekonda Pearls - Oasis
Shoes - Dorothy Perkins
And here are the Modus girls in all their finery. Thank you for an amazing night, for introducing Laura to one of my all-time favourite movies (she loved it, by the way!), and for being such lovely people. I wish you the best of luck in the future.
