I finally made time to visit our city's new library, and I must admit that crazy exterior is growing on me, even if it does look like a hipster's wedding cake.
It's pretty phenomenal inside too. The first 5 floors are kind of what you'd expect from a city center library, multiplied by 100. Modern, inspiring and even beautiful.
At the fourth floor, you encounter this glass elevator which leads to the Secret Garden and the Shakespeare Memorial Room. Intrigued, I headed straight for the top.
Shakespeare's Memorial is world's away from the architecture of the rest of the building. Beautifully ornate carvings adorn the ceiling, whilst the walls are a mass of novels and memorabilia dedicated to the great man over the centuries.
I then ventured down to the Secret Garden, where visitors can look out over the city. I found this very awe-inspiring. The views from up here made me proud to be a Brummie!
If you're in the city, I would definitely recommend taking a trip to the library. Believe me, it's so much more than just books...
