Zoë Overdressed: 10 Must Haves for the New Term

So, September is upon us yet again, which means a whole new year of freshers will soon be joining us. Now freshers, don't go thinking uni is easy. Whilst you will learn financial responsibility (some earlier than others) and you will most definitely learn where your alcoholic limits lie, you will also need the right equipment to make sure you get the most out of your higher education. That includes a wardrobe that will work just as hard as you. And so I present the 10 items every student needs in their closet. Thank me later.

1. The Comfy Jumper
Because there will be mornings, during the first couple of terms at least, when the weather is less than appealing, and the campus feels light years away, and you don't really need to go to that lecture anyway. It will be these mornings when your soft, cosy jumper will become your best friend.

2. The Morning-After Hoodie
Because there will also be mornings when a dark cloud hangs over your head, and memories of the night before flash before your eyes. We've all been there, but it's for the greater good. Pull on a hoodie and hide at the back of the lecture hall. You have our sympathy.

3. The Throw-On-and-Go Dress
Because students love an easy life. There's a good reason for this. We're no good at getting up early for a morning lecture. Therefore, you must plan ahead or keep it simple. And for the days when you need something easy and wearable, these dresses are the perfect solution.

4. The Goes-With-Everything Ankle Boots
Because these will give you a lift whilst providing the comfort you need to wander around campus all day long. Whilst a flat boot is preferable to some people, I am always drawn to a heel of some variety. And they are ridiculously versatile. Wear them with jeans, dresses and skirts.

5. The Hold-All Bag
Have you received your reading list yet? Because if yes, you will understand the necessity of the large, capable handbag. If no, take our word for it. Don't worry though, there are some beautiful bags out there that will turn heads as well as becoming your practical best friend.

6. The Perfect Jeans
Because what is life without a fabulous pair of jeans? They will work in any situation you throw at them. Invest in a few pairs, because the humble jean will become your fashion life-support over the coming months. Be good to your jeans and they will always be there for you.

7. The Wear-All-Day Flats
Because campus is always bigger than you expected. Invest in a few decent pairs if you're going to make it through the semester. Stick to neutral shades, so you can pair them with anything. Trust me, these little beauties will become your best friends.

8. The Cosy-Yet-Covetable Coat
Because, although it's hard to hear, it can't be summer forever. There will come a time when you will yearn for the warm, cosy caress of a beautiful winter coat. Androgynous types should head for Topshop and Warehouse, whilst more feminine shapes are abundant at Oasis and Miss Selfridge.

9. The Night Out Dress
Because there will be a lot of them. We all love a statement, but you will soon learn that a new dress for every night out will have you bankrupt before second semester. So go for something simple and classic in a neutral shade that can be worn again and again.
