9 Best Couture Dresses of Autumn 2013

The couture shows are always the most exciting time in the fashion calendar. We are treated to just a small glimpse of what our beautiful industry is capable of, but it is quality, not quantity that matters. We watch, in awe, as the greatest designers in the world take to the runway to show us exactly what they can do, and very rarely do they disappoint. Here are my picks from Couture Autumn 2013.

Chanel - Karl managed to surprise us yet again, this time with 3D petals in a geometric print. I love the wide belt and graphic colour palette.

Christian Dior - For such a simple dress, this Dior number really catches my eye. I love the asymmetry on the neckline and the neutral colour.

Valentino - A historical, baroque theme flowed through this collection, and was not lost on this gorgeous gown, complete with train and gold accents.

Alexis Mabille - This dramatic design is also of historic influence. Its full length skirt, puffed sleeves and high neckline ooze Victorian glamour. I adore the cute bow and the intricate lace.

Jean Paul Gaultier - Gaultier brings it hard with green, yellow and pink chiffon, fur, jewels and hair like an ice-cream cone. Of course.

Maison Martin Margiela - The trademark masks are back and they are covered in gemstones of every colour. A salmon mini dress-slash-coat with a hemline adorned in multicoloured flowers was my favourite offering from Margiela.

Giambattista Valli - The collection that proved a favourite with brides-to-be everywhere, although it would take a brave woman to wear this creation on her wedding day. Big, billowing and sunshine yellow - this gown screams 'HAPPIEST DAY OF MY LIFE!'

Ulyana Sergeenko - A personal favourite, Russian Ulyana always incorporates a little something from her homeland into her collections. Whilst the gold is beautifully striking, the embroidery and square neckline make this dress classic Sergeenko.

Viktor & Rolf - Always the showmen, Viktor and Rolf unveiled a collection of dresses which zipped together to create one extravagant gown. This piece, however, has a sense of wearability. I love the collar and mini-hemline.
