My Placement with the VM Team @ Selfridges Birmingham

Yesterday was my last day of a three week placement at Selfridges Birmingham. I spent my time helping out the lovely Visual Merchandising team there, and learning a lot in the process. Like how Visual Merchandising is A LOT HARDER THAN YOU'D EXPECT. Seriously.

I had to do a three week placement as part of my Professional Development module for uni, and after a long and stressful couple of months searching for someone who would have me, I decided Selfridges was the place for me. I knew I wanted to try my hand at VM, and I can't think of any brand who puts more creativity into their visual displays.

So what did I get up to, you may ask? Well, I did a lot of painting. You wouldn't believe how many of the props are repainted and reused in different displays.

I also helped to put together some really interesting displays. Each member of the team takes care of a different floor, and I was lucky enough to work on sites all around the store. Here are some of my favourites.

I'm exhausted. My knees are bruised, and my clothes are all covered in paint. But every second was worth it.

The team were amazing. They taught me a lot and were very patient. I have a lot of respect for what they do - it all makes a real difference to the store, and to customers perception of the brand. Next time you're in the store, take a good look at some of the amazing displays, and think about all the hard work that went into them. Jonny, Jayne, Sehra, Andrea and Team Leader Lucy are all passionate about what they do, and are so creative. A big thank you to the team for having me and for being such an inspiration. I couldn't have wished for a better placement.
